42 departments, 63 doctors of science, 148 candidates of science are engaged in the pedagogical process at the pediatric faculty.

The main clinical bases of the pediatric faculty – The First Republican Children’s Clinical Hospital; Children’s Infectious Clinical Hospital is the leading pediatric institutions of the republic. The presence of clinical departments of different profiles allows pediatricians to be trained in various areas in accordance with existing educational standards.
Work with students is carried out in student scientific circles, which are organized in all departments of the faculty. Students involved in the circles, make presentations at scientific conferences, including abroad. Participants in the circle of pediatric surgery – winners of the annual All-Russian Student Scientific Conference on Pediatric Surgery.

Pediatrics is the science of a healthy and sick child. Children’s health is formed from early childhood: a lifestyle is formed, habits, character. Unfortunately, there are some diseases that worsen the quality of life. The goal of pediatricians and pediatric scientists is to develop methods for the early detection of diseases, the prevention of various malformations, and intrauterine infection. The main thing is to create a basis of health for each child born and to reduce infant mortality. Guarding the health of young patients and their mothers is an army of pediatricians: local doctors, pediatric surgeons, endocrinologists, oculists, urologists, psychoneurologists, pediatric infectious diseases specialists, phthisiatricians, cardiologists, sanatorium employees, etc.

All specialties of the doctor can be obtained at the pediatric faculty of the Izhevsk State Medical Academy.

The annual admission to the faculty is more than 100 students. Training lasts 6 years. In the first courses, students study: physics, chemistry, anatomy, histology (the study of the structure of tissues) – forming the basis of professional knowledge. At 2-3 courses, physiology, pharmacology, pathological anatomy, pathophysiology are taught, and at senior courses – clinical disciplines: pediatrics, therapy, pediatric surgery, neurology, hygiene, psychiatry, etc., which reveal the basics of knowledge about a sick child and his illness.

Starting from the first year, all students are trained in the clinic, master the basics of child care, perform some manipulations. In the summer internship, they work as nursing staff, and in senior courses they work as assistant physicians, sometimes replacing full-time employees in polyclinics and hospitals. Experienced teachers assist them. In the sixth year, students under the supervision of assistants and assistant professors independently examine and treat patients, perform medical manipulations, punctures, and surgical interventions. The pediatrician’s training is being completed by the state interdisciplinary examination in the specialty. Studying at the faculty is a long and hard work, it requires great perseverance and dedication. Many students carry out research works, and the results of their works are reported at conferences in universities in other cities, abroad.

After the 6th course, having passed the state examinations, young doctors undergo an annual internship in internship under the guidance of highly qualified teachers and doctors of medical institutions.

In the future, pediatricians can specialize in narrower specialties: pediatric cardiology, endocrinology, radiology, orthopedics, pulmonology, etc.

The pediatric service provides for work among healthy children. This is a preventive direction of medical science, features of pediatrics (stages of maturation, assessment of physical and nervous and mental development, dietary patterns, assessment of school readiness, etc.).

Pediatricians are constantly at the root of the child’s health. Each pediatrician is a teacher for the child and his parents. He must be a competent specialist, an intelligent person, a good psychologist who is well aware of the issues of ethics, deontology, and the legal norms of the doctor’s activities.
